Stop being a generalist! Why you need a niche...

Hi Beautiful!

Today's topic is picking a niche!   

I have a lot of people who come into my business as generalists. This is the main reason why they can’t scale their business. 

It may seem counterintuitive because you may be thinking a broader audience might net you more sales but this couldn’t be further from the truth. 

Stick with me on this one.  

First let’s start with these questions:

STEP 1: What kind of transformation are you providing?  What’s the big promise? Are you going to change someone’s life? 

If you’re not changing lives then you’re not going big enough, quite frankly.  In the above clip Libby was a little bit confused about what her product line was going to be.  She really wanted to incorporate all things "witch" into her product line...when I asked her in our private Facebook group if she was committed to the "witch" she was pretty firm with me!  I loved it!  I thought, "ok now we have something here!"  

In the clip I'm explaining to Libby that we have to go big or go home...or go all in on the witch.  

For example, I know that of someone comes into my experience I WILL change their life.  I know it because I'm so radically obsessed about giving a good customer experience and making sure my clients get the goal that they came into the course with.   (Caveat!  ONLY IF: They show up, work hard, and listen. If they are not doing these three things it’s not going to work.)

STEP 2: Once you know what the transformation is; then work backwards and look at you favorite clients. What do they all have in common?  

Take some time and really evaluate this. They may not all look alike on the exterior but there is some quality that they all have in common. What is it? 

Are you paying attention during the sales process? What are these clients saying to you? Why did they come to you in the first place?

Once you figure out 1. What transformation you are providing 2. What all of your favorite clients have in common then: 

STEP 3. It’s time to start putting the words together that can describe what you do, how you do it, and for whom. This is your niche.

Take this concept and go to market with it. Always SELL IT BEFORE YOU BUILD IT. See how it is landing with your community. Pay attention to the feedback you are getting. It’s possible that you’ll need to pivot a few times before you get it right.

It’s a satisfying place to get your niche in place because that’s when you’ll discover the number of people who feel called to work with you because you do ONE THING REALLY WELL. 

You become the person that does the thing. This is how you get well known for doing one thing very well.
