In this episode of The Marne Morning Show, I had the privilege of speaking with Ryan Ettridge, a spiritual teacher and consciousness coach. We dove deep into the topic of elevating consciousness and how to break free from the constraints of the ego. As a business coach for conscious coaches, I understand how vital it is to shift our mindset, particularly when it comes to living a more connected and fulfilling life. This conversation with Ryan was incredibly insightful and packed with powerful practices to help anyone ready to elevate their consciousness and overcome the limiting grip of the ego.
What is the Ego, Really?
To start, Ryan and I discussed the concept of the ego, which is often misunderstood. The ego is essentially the part of us that creates an identity based on our past experiences, beliefs, fears, and desires. It's the voice in our head that tells us who we are and what we need to do to survive or succeed. The ego can be helpful in some situations, but when it takes over, it can create fear, self-doubt, and negative patterns that keep us from reaching our highest potential.
Ryan explains that the ego often keeps us stuck in the past, afraid of the future, and disconnected from the present moment. This disconnection from the present can create stress, anxiety, and a lack of fulfillment—particularly when we try to move beyond what we've known, like transitioning to a new career or starting a spiritual practice.
How to Elevate Consciousness
Ryan shared several practices to help elevate consciousness and move beyond the ego’s grip. These practices are about creating space to reconnect with our true selves and live more intentionally. Here are a few key insights from our conversation:
Mindful Awareness
One of the most powerful tools for elevating consciousness is mindfulness. By simply being present and aware of our thoughts, we can start to see the ego for what it truly is: a collection of old stories and patterns. The more we practice mindfulness, the more we detach from the ego’s control and allow space for our higher consciousness to emerge.
Letting Go of Attachment
Ryan spoke about the importance of releasing our attachment to our identity and material things. When we identify too strongly with our accomplishments, possessions, or status, we fall into the trap of ego. Elevating consciousness requires us to release the attachment to external validation and connect with a deeper sense of purpose and self.
Embracing the Present Moment
Another critical aspect of elevating consciousness is being in the present moment. When we're fully present, we’re not caught up in the past or anxious about the future. Living in the present moment helps us transcend the ego's narrative and tune into the higher consciousness that already exists within us.
Self-Compassion and Forgiveness
Ryan emphasized the power of self-compassion and forgiveness in the process of personal transformation. The ego often holds onto grudges, regrets, and guilt, which keeps us stuck. By practicing forgiveness—towards ourselves and others—we free ourselves from the burden of the ego and create space for personal growth and healing.
Spiritual Practices and Meditation
One of the most effective ways to elevate consciousness is through spiritual practices, particularly meditation. Ryan shared how meditation allows us to quiet the mind, observe our thoughts, and connect to a higher state of awareness. By consistently practicing meditation, we can dissolve the barriers created by the ego and access a deeper sense of peace and clarity.
Why Elevating Consciousness Matters for Coaches and Healers
As coaches and healers, it’s essential to elevate our consciousness to serve others at the highest level. If we’re stuck in the ego, we might struggle with limiting beliefs, imposter syndrome, or a fear of failure—all of which can block us from truly stepping into our roles as leaders and guides for others.
Elevating consciousness helps us release fear, step into our true power, and align with a deeper sense of purpose. When we do this, we not only enhance our own lives but also become better equipped to help others overcome their own blocks and create lasting transformation.
Practice Gratitude: Shift your focus away from lack and toward abundance by practicing daily gratitude. The ego thrives on negativity and comparison, while gratitude opens us up to joy and expansion.
Let Go of Perfectionism: The ego often feeds on the need for perfection. Embrace the idea that progress, not perfection, is the goal. Allow yourself to be imperfect and trust the process.
