Release and Rejuvenate: Discovering Freedom Through Embodied Movement with Jen Aks
Today, I had the pleasure of speaking with the incredible Jen Aks on the Marne Morning Show. Jen is an expert in embodied movement practices, and she shared profound insights on how these techniques can help us release trapped emotions and ultimately set ourselves free.
Understanding Energetic "Stuckness"
Many of us experience feelings of anxiety and overwhelm in our daily lives, often stemming from unresolved emotions and past experiences. These feelings can manifest as a sense of heaviness, leading to what I like to call “energetic stuckness.” When we don’t express or process our emotions, they can become trapped within our bodies, affecting not just our mental well-being but also our physical health.
The Power of Embodied Movement
Jen introduced us to the concept of embodied movement—a practice that encourages us to connect with our bodies and express emotions through physical movement. This approach is incredibly beneficial for those who feel anxious, overwhelmed, or weighed down by old emotions. By moving our bodies in intentional ways, we can begin to release the pent-up energy that contributes to our feelings of stuckness.
During our conversation, Jen explained that this practice doesn’t require any special skills or prior experience. It’s accessible to everyone and can be done in the comfort of your own home. The key is to listen to your body and allow it to guide you through the movements.
Steps to Get Started
Create a Safe Space: Find a quiet and comfortable area where you can move freely without distractions. This is your time to focus on yourself.
Tune In: Take a moment to close your eyes and connect with your breath. Notice how you feel in your body. What emotions or sensations are present?
Begin Moving: Start with gentle movements—swaying, stretching, or even dancing. Allow your body to express what it needs. Don’t hold back; let the movements flow naturally.
Express and Release: As you move, pay attention to any emotions that arise. Allow yourself to feel them fully and express them through your movements. This could mean shaking off tension, flowing with grace, or even vocalizing what you’re feeling.
Reflect: After your movement practice, take a moment to sit quietly and reflect on the experience. Notice if you feel lighter or more open. Acknowledge the release of any trapped emotions.
The Journey to Freedom
Through embodied movement, we can start to shift our emotional landscapes, allowing us to break free from the burdens of our past. Jen's teachings remind us that our bodies hold wisdom, and when we listen to them, we can unlock profound healing.
If you’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed, I encourage you to try this embodied movement practice. It can be a transformative experience, helping you let go of what no longer serves you and inviting in new energy and clarity.
