Wisdom from our travels in Italy

Happy Birthday to Me. I can’t believe I made it to 52. 

I’ve spent a lifetime trying to be “good enough” …for the world….and for myself. What a paradox.  I’m impossibly funny, kind, beautiful, caring, and thoughtful.  The woman I see in this Reel is super cool! I wish I had realized this 20 years ago.

Not important (keep reading).

Today I feel such a sense of peace and satisfaction and a true inner knowing that none of it really matters. 

Things like family, love, business, all of that is of relevant importance.  But ultimately, none of it is important.  This is not said from a nihilist point of view or some gloom and doom sadness.  It comes from a deep and profound knowing that I know nothing at all.

On our travels through Sicily, we came into contact with “Roberto” who was at the front desk of the rental car place when we arrived in Catania.  Roberto continues to be our Italian guru to this day…let me explain.

When we arrived at the rental car place, he asked us if we had driven an electric vehicle before (we ordered a Tesla, but they “ran out” and we were given a new Polestar).  We both said we’d never driven this car before and didn’t know anything about it, and Roberto’s response was “me neither!” as he threw his hands up with a laugh.  Ha!

Then he’s showing us a few things on the car, and he accidentally breaks off a plastic piece from the back seat.  We looked at him with wide eyes and he tosses it aside and says, “not important” and continues about his business.

It became our go-to sentence, and we’d laugh and laugh and laugh about it, quoting Roberto.

Then we started to use it when things weren’t going our way.  Not important.

Holy shit. 

It became more and more profound, the more we used it. 

We use it all the time now.  Not important. 

Wow.

That’s my birthday message.  I hope this finds you with such peace, joy, and prosperity today.
